The HIPAA regulations require some specific guidelines for electronically submitting health related information.
Most of us know that we have to be very cautious when transmitting protected health information to a third party, in order to protect its confidential nature, and most people are aware that HIPAA controls such transmission. Health professionals often don’t realize that even when they transmit this information to their lawyer, they may still need to be concerned. We advise that any electronic transfers of health protected information be transmitted only via a confidential site and that pdfs are sent with password protection. Contact Attorney Cheryl DeVore if you have specific questions related to HIPAA regulations or other precautions that you should be taking to protect sensitive information.
